We set high standards for sustainable practices and lasting social impact
From the shoreline of the Amalfi Coast to the ancient Australian bush and the vast expanse of the Moroccan desert, each fragrance in our collection has been thoughtfully composed to capture the essence of a specific locale.
The planet is our muse; protecting it is our responsibility. This simple ethos underpins every decision we make as a business.
That’s why we are B Corp Certified, sustainably sourced and 100% vegan-friendly.
Responsible sourcing
What we put into our products matters.
What we leave out is even more important.
Each fragrance is an artful composition of the finest natural and sustainable ingredients that are responsibly sourced through our Fair Trade partnerships.
As of 2024, we’re transitioning to the use of Green Chemistry in our fragrances, including ingredients that are up-cycled, biodegradable and designed to limit waste and pollution. We’re excited to share
more details as we roll out these developments.
Our candles are crafted using an eco-friendly and cruelty-free blend of natural coconut and soy wax for the cleanest possible burn.
LUMIRA is palm oil-free and does not accept or use genetically modified ingredients. Our products have never been tested on animals and they never will be.
Thoughtful packaging
Designed with the future in mind.
Our vessels and bottles are crafted from clear or coloured-through glass, which is infinitely recyclable in curbside recycling.
Or, return your empty and clean LUMIRA glass vessel to our Sydney boutique – we’ll recycle it for you and you’ll receive $30 in credit towards your next in-store purchase.
Find out more about our glass recycling service here.
You’ll find no single-use plastic in our range. This is also the reason our products are packaged in FSC certified cardboard, with no cellophane or plastic.
Conscious production
Keeping our footprint as small as possible.
LUMIRA is proudly 100% Australian-owned and -made. We work with manufacturers local to our Sydney head office, always favouring small-batch manufacturing techniques to minimise waste.
When you place an order via our website, it will be delivered anywhere in the world using carbon-neutral shipping, via our partners at Australia Post, Fedex and DHL.
We treat our wholesale business with the same level of care, using only recycled cardboard shipping cartons and 100% carbon-neutral shipping when delivering product to our stockists.
Giving back
Caring for the people in our community.
The financial goals of our business are always carefully balanced with our commitment to making a positive contribution to society.
We give back $1 from every online sale to an NGO of your choice, via our ongoing partnership with i=change. To date, we’ve supported the important work done by Beyond Blue, Greening Australia and Global Sisters.
Our suppliers have their own Responsible Sourcing Policies as part of their agreements with us. These set high standards for health and safety, environmental, business integrity and social practices in the making of all LUMIRA products.

Guiding Our Growth
We use the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
as a roadmap to help guide the growth of our business.
The story so far
Over the past decade we’ve taken consistent steps towards meeting our ethical and environmental commitments.
Small-batch production
2013
LUMIRA began as a small-batch candle brand lovingly handmade in the Sydney kitchen of our founder Almira. Crafting each product by hand allowed us to minimise waste and gave us full transparency over the ingredients. While the company has grown, we’ve stayed true to this ethos.
Coloured-through glass
2016
We transitioned to coloured-through glass for all our candle vessels. Unlike painted glass vessels, coloured-through glass can be infinitely recycled in curbside recycling.
Royal Botanic Gardens
2018
Our three-year partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney commenced with the creation of three bespoke candles, with 20% from the sale of each donated directly to the Gardens. Over three years, we donated more than $20,000 to the Gardens’ research and conservation work.
Sedex accreditation
2019
Sedex is one of the world’s leading platforms to improve working conditions in global supply chains.
Soy-coconut wax
2020
We transitioned to using an all natural blend of coconut and non GMO soy wax for our candles. This gives a beautiful and long-lasting burn while also being eco-friendly and cruelty-free.
i=change
2022
We teamed with i=change to give back $1 from every online transaction to one of three deserving NGOs. With your help, we’ve supported the vital work of Beyond Blue, Greening Australia and Global Sisters.
B Corp certification
2024
In an exciting step for the future of LUMIRA, we received B Corp certification after a rigorous assessment of every aspect of our business operations, demonstrating high standards and transparency around social impact.
