Lumira Interiors | Perianth Hotel

The most famous buildings in Greece might be thousands of years old, but the one currently getting the most buzz has only been open for a handful of months. Perianth Hotel opened its doors over the European summer, and has already established its position as one of the most chic places to stay in the nation’s capital.

Housed in a striking 1930s modernist-style building, the boutique hotel (it has just 38 guest rooms), is the work of Greek architectural firm K-Studio. In a nod to the building’s past, the designers have worked with a minimal but deeply glamorous aesthetic: terrazzo floors; sleek, metal-framed furniture custom-made by K-Studio; generous slabs of marble. The pastel palette – blush pink sage green, dove grey – is as calming as one might hope to return to, after a day spent jostling against the crowds at the nearby tourist attractions. Should extra relaxation be required, guests have the choice of an in-house Zen Centre, offering meditation, yoga and martial arts, or a cocktail at the fabulous marble-lined bar.

Complementing the cool, Euro-modern style are flashes of contemporary Greek art and design. Renowned local fashion designer Sophia Kokosalaki has designed all the staff uniforms, while works by artists Yiannis Varelas, Maria Papadimitriou and Margarita Myrogianni are on display. There’s certainly no shortage of features to capture and hold the gaze but perhaps the most stunning of all can be seen from the terrace of the sixth-floor penthouse. It’s here that the buzzy new Perianth comes eye-to-eye with its ancient neighbours, with sweeping, uninterrupted views across Athens and all the way to the Acropolis.
