Introducing Botanica
Over the past three years, we’ve been proud to collaborate with the incredible Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney on the creation of several scents for the home. Fittingly, our third and final scent in the Gardens series – called Botanica – is inspired by the largest botanic garden in Australia, the Australian Botanic Garden in Mount Annan.
Located in Sydney’s west, this Garden covers more than 400 hectares of bushland and is home to 225 native plant species. It’s known for themed gardens showcasing the splendour of species like wattle, bottlebrush and banksia and is also home to the Australian PlantBank, an award-winning plant research and storage facility.
After spending time in this beautiful space, LUMIRA founder and creative director Almira Armstrong was inspired to create Botanica. From the outset, notes of native eucalyptus and lemon tea tree infuse the air before a cluster of florals appear through the mid-notes. The earthy undertones – vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood – create a grounding base that reflects the rich history of this land.
The limited-edition full-size Botanica Candle has a burn time of approximately 80 hours. Or enjoy the Botanic Gardens Discovery Set Trio, containing Botanica, Florescence and Wilderness candles. It’s available in strictly limited quantities so be quick!
This launch also recognises our company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. We are proud to donate 20% from the sale of each Botanica Candle and Botanic Gardens Discovery Set to support the Gardens’ important science and conservation work.
Visiting the Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan
At just an hour’s drive from the Sydney CBD, the Garden at Mount Annan makes the perfect day trip, and the spring/summer season is an ideal time to visit. Wind your way along the 20 kilometres of walking trails and discover native flora bursting into bloom attracting bees, birds and countless other wildlife.
Simply spend the day exploring, or plan ahead and enjoy one of these special activities...
Take a Nature Therapy Walk
Led by accredited nature and forest therapy guides, these walks are designed to help you slow down, become more mindful and connect with nature. Forest therapy has advocates all over the world and has been found to help reduce stress levels and lower blood pressure as well as being a truly delightful way to spend time among the trees.
Visit the Mallee Eucalypt Arboretum
The heady scent of eucalyptus forms one of the top notes in our new Botanica Candle and we continue to be entranced by this native species. The Garden’s eucalypt arboretum houses the small mallee eucalypts with their distinctive oversized gumnuts.
Book a tour of the Australian PlantBank
Established in the 1980s, PlantBank stores seeds for use in important research, conservation, restoration work – a mission that’s close to our hearts. We highly recommend booking a guided tour to truly appreciate the depth of this living reference library.
